Student Vacation Program

PHI Student Vacation Program 2011-2012

PHI offers scholarships each year to undergraduates and Honours students interested in participating in research project placements currently underway at our institute. These scholarships are tenable for up to eight weeks and will generally be available during the summer holiday period.  The placements are intended to stimulate the interest of students in research and to gauge their research aptitude. The scholarships are not intended to support the employment of students for routine work.

Eligibility
Scholarships are open to University undergraduates who have completed at least two years of their course at the time the scholarship commences. Undergraduates who have completed their final year, and students currently finishing an Honours year will be eligible only if they can demonstrate plans to undertake further study the following year.

Only one application per student is permitted. Project preferences should be indicated on the application form. If a student accepts an offer of another student vacation scholarship, this will preclude that applicant from a PHI Vacation Scholarship.

Funding
The scholarship will be paid in the total amount of $1500 for the agreed tenure, which must be for at least six weeks and up to a maximum of eight weeks (excluding holidays and the PHI Christmas closedown period).

Scholarship payments will be made in two instalments. The first instalment of $500 will be made approximately 2 weeks following the completion of induction processes. The second instalment of $1000 will take place at completion of the placement following submission of a final report and return of PHI property including keys and lab books or following HR confirmation of acceptance for further study with PHI.

How many scholarships will be offered?
PHI Vacation Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Approximately 10 scholarships will be offered each year.
