In June, PHI researcher Dr Sarah Meachem spoke to more than 1200 members of the medical research community, policy makers and politicians as part of Medical Research Week.
Sarah is currently the President of the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR). She is the 5th PHI researcher to hold this prestigious national role.
As ASMR President she has played a leading role in the promotion of community awareness of medical research, professional development programs days for medical researchers and advising government on issues of health and medical research.
During Medical Research Week, Sarah spoke to more than 1200 dinner guests around the country. In her presentations she highlighted that Australian researchers have an exceptional track record on the world stage.
"A dollar invested in health and medical research provides exceptional returns. We need to make clear that health and medical research underpins not only the nation's health in finding new and better cures, treatments and diagnostics for preventative measures but it also helps keep the economy healthy." said Sarah.
Sarah is a Senior Research Officer at PHI where her area of research interest is the hormonal and genetic control of somatic and germ cell biology in males.
